One of the biggest moments of the evening came during updates from Bond Oversight Committee members Oscar Martinez and Sean Schroeder. The committee reflected on the completion of Colorado ISD’s $8.1 million bond projects, including the new baseball and softball facilities, Wolf Stadium improvements, auditorium upgrades and the Judge Mark and Judy Merrell CTE Building complete with the Trane Center of Excellence.

Both spoke about what those completed projects mean not just for today’s students, but for future generations of Wolves and for the pride of the Colorado City community as a whole.

Dr. Polk shared that the district completed the $8.1 million bond projects under budget with $1,287.49 remaining from the original bond amount.

The Board also held a public hearing regarding the proposed demolition of the former three-story middle school building at 312 E. 12th Street. The conversation carried both practicality and nostalgia as trustees discussed safety, long-term maintenance and future opportunities for the property.

Following discussion, the Board approved the demolition proposal from JW&T Construction. The C.E. “Buddy” Compton Boardroom, Frances Godwin Center and the Pit will remain.

Trustees Veronica Boone (District 1), John Martinez (District 2) and Emily Strain (District 5) were officially sworn in following the recent election before taking the Oath of Office administered by Judge Redwine.

During Lone Star Governance monitoring, trustees reviewed district progress toward student outcome goals. Dr. Polk reported that Colorado ISD currently exceeds its CCMR (College, Career and Military Readiness) target with a 94% attainment rate, while students continue making strong progress toward community service engagement goals.

Dr. Polk also shared that Colorado ISD completed all required intruder audits this year with no findings.

The Board approved a new campus safety alert system through Centegix designed to strengthen emergency communication and response procedures across the district.

Additional items approved through the consent agenda included April financial reports, budget amendments, board continuing education training, canine services for the 2026-2027 school year with Interquest Detection Canines and district technology items.

The Board also discussed a teacher housing proposal from JW&T Construction, though no final action was taken on that item.

From honoring staff members to reflecting on completed bond projects and discussing the future of longtime district facilities, Monday night’s meeting reflected a theme that continues to shape Colorado ISD: honoring the past while continuing to build for what comes next.
