CISD School Board Meeting

Some school board meetings follow a familiar rhythm, steady and predictable. But every so often, a meeting reminds us why Colorado ISD is such a special place to call home. The November 10 Board of Trustees meeting was one of those nights, filled with good news, steady leadership, and a shared sense of pride in the work happening across our district.

From the moment the meeting began, there was a feeling of confidence in the room. Not loud or flashy, just the kind that comes from knowing our district is on solid ground and moving in the right direction, together.

Another Clean Audit, Another Point of Pride

One of the clearest bright spots of the evening came as the district’s independent auditor joined remotely to present this year’s report. He didn’t waste any time getting to the heart of it:

Colorado ISD earned a clean, unmodified audit opinion, the highest level you can receive.

No findings.
No compliance concerns.
No red flags of any kind.

He spoke highly of the district’s financial health, noting especially strong liquidity and responsible decision-making throughout the year. In simple terms, our district is managing taxpayer dollars with care, accuracy, and transparency.

He also praised our staff for their preparation and professionalism, saying that every question was answered and every document was exactly where it needed to be. And in a moment that felt true to small-town pride, he even complimented our new athletic fields, calling them “gorgeous.”

The only remaining step is for federal guidance to be released so the audit can be officially bound and finalized. No changes to the report are expected; this is simply a timing requirement beyond the district’s control.

Recognizing Service Close to Home

The Board unanimously approved the district's nominations to the Mitchell County Appraisal District Board of Directors, Theresa Hughes and CISD’s own John Martinez. Their willingness to continue serving our county was met with warm appreciation from trustees.

Investing in the People Who Make CISD Strong

One of the most meaningful moments of the night came when the Board approved a one-time $800 payment for all CISD staff. Superintendent Dr. Polk spoke from the heart, reminding everyone that Colorado ISD’s greatest strength is its people — the educators, custodians, bus drivers, cafeteria teams, paraprofessionals, office staff, and every employee who shows up for our students every day.

This payment is a way of saying: We see you. We appreciate you. And we’re grateful for everything you do.

Supporting Student Success in Every Arena

Colorado High School’s One-Act Play cast also received support as the Board approved an abbreviated day on March 25, 2026, to help the students compete in UIL events. Assistant Superintendent Farmer confirmed that the district calendar has the flexibility to make this adjustment without impacting required instructional time, thanks to the thoughtful planning that goes into each year.

It was a small agenda item, but an important reminder: CISD is committed to supporting students in every area where they shine, whether it’s on a stage, a field, or in the classroom.

A Community Moving Forward Together

The November 10 meeting wrapped up the same way it began, with teamwork, clarity, and optimism. No dramatic announcements, no surprises. Just steady progress, strong financial stewardship, and genuine pride in what’s happening across Colorado ISD.

It was a night that underscored something simple but powerful:

Great things are happening in Colorado ISD, and it’s because of the people who make up this community.
