Colorado Independent School District has earned top honors in the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) and Texas Association of School Administrators (TASA) annual awards, with both our superintendent and board of trustees advancing to the state level in two of the most prestigious recognitions in Texas public education.

Dr. Larry Polk, Superintendent of Colorado ISD, has been named the 2025 Superintendent of the Year for Region 14, one of only seventeen district leaders across Texas selected for this distinction. The regional winners are chosen by selection committees at each Education Service Center, based on leadership excellence, student achievement, fiscal responsibility, and strong community and board relations.

“I want to thank all member school boards for their work in nominating superintendents to be considered for this prestigious award,” said TASB Executive Director Dan Troxell. “We know the nominees have the full support of their trustees.”

Dr. Polk, who has served Colorado ISD since 2021, will now advance to the statewide competition, where five finalists will be selected in August for final interviews during txEDCON25, the joint annual convention of TASB and TASA, held this year September 11–14 in Houston.

In an equally significant honor, the Colorado ISD Board of Trustees has been named the Region 14 nominee for the 2025 TASA Outstanding School Board of the Year Award. The selection recognizes school boards that demonstrate outstanding dedication, governance, and impact on student outcomes.

Only one board per region is selected for this honor, and Colorado ISD’s board now advances to the next round of state-level judging. Up to five Honor Boards will be named in late July and invited to present at txEDCON25, where one will be named the 2025 Outstanding School Board of the Year.

The dual recognition marks a milestone for Colorado ISD, as both its superintendent and governing board have been honored for their unified and visionary leadership.

“This is more than an individual accolade,” said Dr. Polk. “It’s a reflection of what happens when a school board and superintendent lead together with purpose and put students at the heart of every decision.”

Since 1984, the TASB Superintendent of the Year program has celebrated exemplary district leadership, while the TASA School Board Awards, established in 1971, honor the dedicated service of trustees working on behalf of Texas schoolchildren.

Colorado ISD’s recognitions in both programs underscore the district’s growing reputation as a model of collaborative leadership, innovation, and student-centered success across the state.
