FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

Colorado City, Texas—The Colorado Independent School District (CISD) and the Mitchell County Commissioners Court were unable to reach a mutually beneficial agreement on the conveyance of the Mitchell County Sports Complex despite both parties' best efforts.

CISD Superintendent Dr. Larry Polk expressed the vision focus of the district to meet the needs of our student-athletes to participate in UIL competitions on safe playing surfaces and continued to reiterate that the two-year process was never intended to create a divide, but yet an infusion of resources and economic development that would benefit the city, school district, county, and community.

The school district respects the will of the commissioners and the community gathers in favor of the county retaining the property.  The major concern of community access was never in jeopardy.  CISD Board President Emily Strain, echoed a message of unity that was initiated by Mr. Kaleb Free.

CISD sincerely extends gratitude to all the commissioners, Judge Redwine, and the county attorney for their hard work and dedication to the people of Mitchell County. Voices were clearly heard and the spirit of democracy was on display. While the district is disappointed that the conveyance of the sports complex was unanimously denied, we are grateful for the partnership and the new zeal to work collaboratively to improve the facility for the betterment of our student- athletes and our community.

CISD intends to remain focused on the approval of the $8.1 million dollar bond from the community which will fund the proposed CTE (Career and Technical Education) Renovations to the woodshop area of the old Middle School. We plan to expand our Health Science Programming by introducing Diagnostic and Therapeutic certifications for Medical Assistant, EKG, and Phlebotomy. This addition will complement our existing CNA program. Additionally, we recognize the need for training in HVAC, Plumbing, and Electrical fields in Colorado City, and we plan to introduce these programs. We'll also be making Safety, Security and Capital Improvements. The district will now move forward with its contingency Plan B of renovating the Baseball/Softball Fields at the district-owned property, known as A.W. Phillips Field, located just north of Wolf Stadium.

Dr. Polk added, "Regardless of the outcome of the bond election, we will continue exploring opportunities to serve our students and the community, and we remain committed to providing the best possible educational experience and meeting facility needs for our students.”

CISD extends its sincere appreciation to all those involved in the negotiations. Rest assured, CISD remains steadfast in its commitment to working collaboratively with the Mitchell County Commissioners Court and other community partners to support the students and families of Mitchell County.
