The Colorado ISD Board of Trustees has taken an essential step towards building a better future for the school district by unanimously agreeing on a 4-year contract for CISD's Superintendent Dr. Larry Polk, Jr. As a leader with a proven track record, Dr. Polk's appointment is a testament to the board's commitment to ensuring that the school district continues to thrive and provide quality education to its students. With this decision, the board has set a strong example for others to follow in their pursuit of excellence.

The CISD board has unanimously appointed Jerri Kimball as the Alternate Agent, Acting Secretary, Early Voting Clerk, and custodian of records for the upcoming May 4 election. Additionally, the board has authorized the school district to hold a joint election with the City of Colorado City by passing a resolution. The May ballot will feature two expiring terms: Trustee Ty Wood and Vice President Lilliana Ornelas.

The board has approved the resignation of Ismael Silva, who was a CISD representative on the Mitchell County Appraisal Districts board of directors. Silva resigned because he recently accepted a job with the City of Colorado City, which made him ineligible to continue holding one of the school district's three seats on the MCAD board. Mike Ratliff and John Martinez are the other two representatives representing the district.

During the board meeting, the members approved a request made by the City of Colorado to change the zoning ordinance from C2 to MXI. This change will allow property owners in the downtown business district to establish residences on their property with the City of Colorado City Council's permission.

CISD's next school board meeting will be held at 5:30 PM on February 12, 2024. The CISD School Board welcomes all community members to join them.
