School Board

The CISD school board spent much time during their meeting Tuesday night, March 28, discussing how best to support our students, parents, and our teachers.

Currently, CISD has a B rating by TEA (Texas Education Agency), and those 3 points CISD is shy of an A rating fuels the fire for the non-stop passion our educators give daily. Those 3 points to that A rating is akin to those last 3 pounds to your goal weight.

“I want our teachers to know that their efforts do not go unnoticed. We are very conscious of all that each teacher does to ensure each of our CISD students are CCMR-Engaged. We are so grateful that you are an intricate part of our team,” said Superintendent Larry Polk.

STAAR performance standards relate test performance levels to the expectations defined in the state-mandated curriculum standards known as the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Cut scores established by the agency distinguish between performance levels or categories. Establishing cut scores that define performance levels for an assessment is the standard setting, and the standard setting also classifies students into an appropriate performance category.

For STAAR and STAAR Spanish, the labels for the performance categories are

  • Masters Grade Level
  • Meets Grade Level
  • Approaches Grade Level
  • Did Not Meet Grade Level

CISD's most sought-after goal is for each student to achieve the Meet and Master Grade Level accomplishment.

The Board combed over the District Safety Report and CISD Emergency Operating Procedures and was pleased to hear that CISD is recognized as “Safe For Students” after being audited during a lockdown drill earlier this month.

CISD is gearing up to be #Future Ready. Thomas C. Murray, author of "Personal and Authentic," was approved by the Board as the convocation speaker on August 8, 2023.

Taking broader strokes, the Board heard the TASB (Texas Association of School Boards) Resolution regarding school vouchers and their effects on rural public schools. CISD holds true and firm that CISD will always be a school that accepting everyone and will not "cherry-picking" it student body. The Board approved support of the TASB Resolution.

Place 1 and Place 2 for the upcoming School Board Election are unopposed. Therefore, the election for these two trustee seats was canceled. Trustee Veronica Boone will remain in Place 1, and Place 2 will continue to be held by John Martinez.

Talks of softball and baseball field options and revamping an old building to become a resource for furthering our CTE (Career and Technology Education) program were discussed, with no action taken.
