Band

From playing the French Horn for the Big Spring Symphony to adding multiple accolades to the CHS Band's resume, Sam Hale proves to be the crescendo in the success of our beloved Wolf Band.

Mr. Hale has taught band for twenty-three years and spent the past seven years as the head band director here at Colorado High School. Mr. Hale graduated from Coleman High School and earned his Music Education degree from Howard Payne University.

From there, Mr. Hale spent sixteen years as an assistant band director at Big Spring High School and has played French Horn for the Big Spring Symphony for the past twenty-three years.

Since coming to Colorado City, the CHS Band has competed at five UIL State Solo and Ensemble Contests, earned five UIL Sweepstakes awards, six UIL Marching Division 1's, and five trips to the UIL Area Marching Band Contest. The Pride of Wolf Country Marching Band was a finalist and alternate to State at the UIL Area Marching Contest in 2020, and the Band earned the Outstanding Band in Class 3A award at the 2018 Big Country Marching Festival under Mr. Hale.

This past Saturday, February 18, 2023, the CHS Band brought 10 Division 1 medals home from the UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest in Abilene.

Looking ahead to upcoming events, Mr. Hale is excited to take the CHS Band to perform at the Clay Cooper Theater in Branson, Missouri, for the second time, on May 26 of this year.

Mr. Hale, your pride and dedication to the CHS Band deserves a standing ovation.
